Of Woodwose And Things That Go Bump In The Night...

The stories of “Wild Men” have been around since the dawn of pre-civilization. Virtually every continent and small groups of islands have their own unique stories of seemingly tall, often hairy-matted version of mythical beings that live in the forest or manifest themselves at certain times of the year or in various seasons. It isn’t clearly understood as to how these strange and abnormal tales of the Woodwose , a term coined from the primitive European word “wudu” or wood,  actually came in to being  - we only know that they’re there and surely must have some semi- premise or root based on actual visual and audio accounts. Remarkably, there are many cultures (virtually all) that still believe in the awe inspiring verbal and written stories from ages long since passed. We still have modern-day accounts of those very same mythical mysteries. To understand the origins of these tales, we must briefly delve into the past of varying ancient cultures:

The Legend of Krampus - 

With Christmastime approaching, many European countries (most notably Austrian villages) still mention the fabled, Krampus. The monster was said to have captured mischievous children and hold them hostage and then beat them until they become nice and not naughty. There has recently been somewhat of a surge in Hollywood to make Christmas-time horror films on this uniquely Germanic tale.

The term “Krampus” was believed to be transference in literation from the meaning of the Son of Hel from Norse mythology. Ironically enough, while researching this article, it would appear that this is also one of the origins of the word, “hell”. Krampus is a derivative of the ancient word, krampen which means “claw” in old High-German. Every year prior to December 6^th which is known as Krampusnacht (OR Krampus Night, December 5^th, the eve of the 6^th), Krampus is said to make his appearance and cage up his young, mischievous subjects to punish them.

Modern day advents with Krampus have the mythical being dressed out as a hairy, giant type of creature with horns. Citizens parade around in the streets and the activity in some places is akin to “The Running of The Bulls”.

The Woodwose Beings in Other Areas of Europe and in North America -

A total of 19 European countries celebrate with some derivation of woodwose- type beings during the holidays. Take for instance the country of Sardinia – participants dress up as a character called, the Mamuthones. Slovenia has their own variation of forest creep called, Kurent or Korent. These beings resemble a sheep-skin covered type animal that are said to have unrestrained, hedonistic behaviors. The Macedonians have the Bearded Djolomari and the Bulgarians have their Babugeri that wards off evil spirits.

Every year at Easter, Poland has a festival with characters dressed as the Dziady and there again the costumes are made of fake hair, woven straw and sheep skin. We there again see a resemblance of what Americans have coined Bigfoot or Sasquatch. Quite remarkably, all of the above mentioned are not supposed to talk during their performances but rather hoot, whistle or murmur. This again is very similar to some of the accounts where people have heard of Bigfoot or Sasquatch making only those types of noises. One must have to wonder where that tradition came from and it would almost seem that the ancients would have had to witness this type of behavior first hand in order to mimic it.

We again see woodwose or forest beings in such as the Gallorones in Spain, the Pelzmartle in another area of Germany, Strohman in another part of Germany, and the Stag on New Year’s Day in Romania - all having the theme of a hairy creatures coming in from the forest.

Is There Any Doubt?

It would almost seem that the mythological creatures of holiday Europe have some ties to what we contemporarily term as Bigfoot or Sasquatch. There’s almost a definite connection based simply on folklore itself. Could early Europeans have based their own Bigfoot-type sightings and then later attributing names to them like what we’ve seen explained here? The Native Americans described the Sasquatch as beings that seemed to live in “two worlds” but; I f I may suggest – is that not the very same attributes early Europeans described and attributed to their holiday folkloric characters?

With the suggestion of both Europeans and Native Americans stating that these forest monster- type beings live in two worlds; would it still not stand to reason that there are elements of truth in these historical accounts? Is it possible that the woodwose and wild men of both continents share a historical kinship in some weird and unknown way? Could they perhaps have undefined gifts that at current have no way of measuring scientifically? Can they really live in “two worlds” as suggested by our ancients?

Bigfoot Eyewitness Interview: The AJ Jones Story

REPORT - Dogmen-Like Entities Reported by Witness in Dallas County, Georgia - 2016

What was observed?

The witness was coming back in from an out of town venue and arrived at her place of residence circa 3:00A. Having things to unload from her pick-up truck, the witness backed into her yard tailgate first on this particular night. She had called friends she met on her venue to let them know she made it home safely.

After a few minutes (around 10 to 15 minutes); the witness saw what she thought at the time, was a person walking through her front, country lawn. The witness was startled because of her location being in the suburbs and the late hour at which anyone would be “just walking through” (she described her emotions as being, “creeped-out”. She immediately locks the doors on her automobile until she felt comfortable the person was moving on. However, the person never did make it all the way through the yard and hid behind a large tree.

To the witness’ amazement, a second individual came from the same direction and took position behind another sizable tree in the witness’ front yard.  Nervously and not wanting to exit the vehicle, she scooted down in the front seat of her truck at the recommendation of her friends that she was still on the phone with. Remarkably, and as she peered over through the front windshield – a third party exited a wood line and took position with the second the second one that has come out.  It was the third person that had exited the woods that peeked from around the tree at her. They seemingly must have known she was still in the vehicle. It was shortly after the third of what the witness thought were “people” that she noticed of the one peeking out that it had a snout (it turned its head from side to side at times and silhouetted itself at certain intervals, the moon was full) and long ears – longer than any person’s ears should be.

The witness simply couldn’t believe what she was experiencing. At times, all three entities knelt, hunched and stood erect. She knew immediately that these were not people and they were some type of upright walking, hairy beings that had “dog-like” head features. The witness described each creature as being approximately 6 ½’ to 7’ tall in stature, solid black and coated with a dusting of hair with black skin.

Eventually, after about 20 minutes of observing these strange beings (and trying to capture a digital picture of them on her phone – none of them came out due to bad light); they ran towards the back part of her property to a swampy/marshy area out of view. Other reprised physical features of the beings given by the witness over the phone but not via The Chattahoochee Bigfoot™ Sighting Submission Forms were that they stayed hunched over most of the time, they seemed to have a tuft of hair running down the back of the neck akin to a horse, the arms stayed in somewhat of a retracted/ bouncing pendulous mode like a what could be imagined on a Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur from the movies. And finally, the legs were described as being more akin to a canine’s hind leg than that of a person or a normal, typical Bigfoot. The witness has observed these “Bigfoot-Like”, but not quite Bigfoot entities two more times since the original event. She placed trail cameras throughout her residence but has yet to capture a decent digital photo.

Conclusion: Legitimate report – We have no reason at this time to doubt the witness. Investigation is on-going. These types of sightings including "dogmen-like" entities are becoming more prevalent for some unknown reason.

Blue Ridge, Georgia Bigfoot Sighting - 1998

Location: Gilmer County, Georgia

What was observed?

A local worker went out to take measurements for glass installation in to a new cabin that was being built in the N. Georgia Mountains near Blue Ridge, Georgia. As the worker arrived at the structure, he noticed two tall, hair covered creatures standing on what was the unfinished back balcony of the cabin. By his own approximation, the tallest being was around 8’ to 8 1/2’ in height (its color was gray) while the smaller of the two was estimated at around 6 ½’ to 7’. It was assumed that the gray one was the male and the brown was female (however, it has been noted that he was not sure because of the distance he was standing from them). He described both as looking very human-like, more so than ape-like and their skin was of “olive” complexion.

The observer also stated that both of the Bigfoot stepped over a makeshift rail and partially finished outdoor stairs and, exited in to the woods on a slightly worn out path leading the cabin’s side. The observer was very adamant the neither of the Bigfoot were in a hurry.  After about 20 minutes, the observer worked up the nerve to go up to the back porch of the cabin’s balcony.

Upon arrival up to the balcony level, it was at this time when he peered over that he noticed a rutted trail that had been slightly used and was approximately four foot wide. He proceeded to take his measurements for a sliding glass door when he noticed something in where the living room would be. He found an area that was full of old pine limbs, sticks, twigs and vines. He stated that this structure some eight foot in diameter appeared to woven together in an egg shape with a four foot hole in the middle -something akin to and described as a “tree igloo” if you will. He could see very clearly into the structure and he noticed what appeared to be an old doll, some candy wrappers of various chocolates, a tin can and an old handled comb like someone would have used back in the 1970’s. The observer noticed no smells typically associated during and after Bigfoot encounters.

Conclusion: Authentic sighting

Rock Stacks and Tee-Pee's

It has been long understood fact that tee-pee markers, rock stacks and arch formations are common place during and near bigfoot sightings. What do they mean or better yet; what do they represent? Anyone's guess is a good as the next. But let us look closer. The Native Americans always considered the bigfoot beings a "a people". Similar in appearance but nevertheless a tribe of "swarthy, hairy and overly-large" group of people (or tribe if you will)".

Native Americans knew that these being were primarily nocturnal. In other word's, they chose to show up during the night when others were asleep or getting ready for bed. My theory is that this technique primarily allowed them considerable concealment. Are they using the covertness of dark as a tool "as to not to scare the 'be-Jesus out of others? Or is it simply to come and probe around looking for food and keepsakes?

Creating such things as tee-pees, rock piles or stacks have long since been related to Indian tribes marking the land for passer-byers' as to the locations of water, food sources or safe havens. Would it not be common since that the bigfoot also knew of these techniques and applied them so that other bigfoot would see the tell-tale signs while passing from one area to the next? We have to then ask ourselves where the bigfoot learned these messages or "greeting cards" as I call them. Did American Indians and bigfoot once co-exist peacefully? Did they have learning relationship together at one time?

So...what should we do when we run across these signs? Well, first of all we should document them by photographing, drawing or videoing them. We should then carefully inspect each branch or rock for signs of unusual hair or possible habitation. The last thing one should do is to disassemble any unknown structure realizing that something with an "opposable thumb" had to make them. In other words, something had to have the dexterity to situate these items just so. Which eludes to the fact that these beings are creative. Creative in such a method that only their kind would recognize these signs in the forest (unless you are a researcher and know to look for these items). The typical hiker or woodsman would merely shrug these forms of communication off without giving them a second thought.

 Secondly, we should try to interpret a meaning for these structures. Are they in an area with abundant food? Are they temporary concealed shelter? Are they ritualistic in nature? Look for the thing that should not be there and less so the obvious. Lastly, we should try to better understand why these formations, especially the "tee-pee's" are that particular shape. Why aren't they square? Or round? OR rectangular? Why pyramidal (or conical) in shape? The overall shape in general of tee-pee's is amazing and raises a lot of questions within itself. Why do rock stacks typically start off with large stones from the bottom only to taper off into smaller stones at the top?

What Are "Bigfoot"?

Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch in The Pacific Northwestern United States are believed to be both daylight and nocturnal roaming human-like beings. They are often described as either being partially or completely covered in body hair with the exception of the face. hands, feet and parts of the torso. Reports often come in that describe large foot impressions that measure in the ranges of 10 to 16 inches in length from toe to heel and up to 6 inches wide at the heel. Moreover, we have recieved reports in the past of Bigfoot being seen that are anywhere from six to 10 feet tall.

Bigfoot-type beings are also reported in other countries such as Russia (termed The Almasty), China (The Yeren), Sumatra (The Orang-Pendek), Australia (termed The Yowie), Nepal (The Yeti), Canada (termed Sasquatch, the name is also used in The United States) and South America (The Curinqueans). Most of Europe uses the same terms as found in The United States with the exception of Great Britain where it is sometimes associated with the many names of smaller villages such as "The Wildman of Kent" and so on. After 50 years of study by most all nations, it is still definitively "unknown" as to what these elusive beings actually are.
